The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Referee of the Year Award which has been named The Dave Noble Trophy for Referee of the Year this year after one of the Highlands referees, Dave Noble. His daughter, Amanda Noble presented the award. Amanda was also presented a Life Membership of the Referees Association for her father from Garry George.
Thomas Goodman, a member of the HSA Board, spoke about Dave on the night – “Dave Noble was a player, coach and referee in the Southern Highlands for many years. He was very well respected in all of these roles in his many years living in Hilltop. He coached his son’s team in the Highlands Eagles Club in the early 2000’s with great success in the Illawarra competition.
In refereeing Dave was held in high esteem. He won the Referee Of The Year Trophy 3 times, an award voted on by our local clubs.
Very sadly Dave passed away prematurely from illness last year so it was decided to name the Trophy after him. His daughter Amanda has continued in his refereeing footsteps so she was the right person to present the Trophy to this year’s recipient Andy Bell.”
