Walking Football

HIGHLANDS SOCCER ASSOCIATION SET TO LAUNCH WALKING FOOTBALL AT THE BRADMAN CENTRE

Run in conjunction with Active Ageing Australia, FFA and Football NSW, these quality programs offer and target a social, small-sided, and sustainable version of football specifically modified for older Australians.

Walking Football aims to provide participants with physical and mental health benefits, social contentedness, and promotion of the benefits of ongoing physical activity.

Bradman Oval will play host to this ideal opportunity for participants 50 plus who want to be active and social.

With a smaller pitch, low impact, non-contact, and team based, it’s a great way to play with your mates or make new ones.

Football NSW Club Development and Participation Coordinator Trevor Huxley was delighted with Highland Soccer Association and the Bradman Centre launching their Walking Football program.

“Walking Football is a fantastic initiative offering a social, small-sided and viable version of football, specially modified for older Australians – it’s fantastic to see Walking Football spreading to our regional associations.”

Highland Soccer Associations Michael Hamilton was excited with the prospects that Walking Football was ready to take the region by storm.

“Walking Football is exactly what it sounds like, a standard football game where participants walk instead of run.

“It’s designed to allow all newcomers to maintain an active lifestyle, no matter what age or fitness.

“Whilst also catering for those who are returning to Football from injury or who wish to start exercising in a fun and social environment.

“The social aspect is also important to consider, especially due to the added isolation COVID has brought, participants can meet new people in a safe and fun environment.”

Bradman Centres Executive Director Rina Hore was thrilled to be hosting such an exciting sporting initiative.

“We are delighted that the Bradman Oval will host this initiative to provide an opportunity for older residents to experience the thrills of team sport.

“During COVID restrictions, it’s a great way to get out more, meet new people and feel better.”
